Mountain Gate: Buddha 1

This mask is woven with yarn spun from three different natural white fleeces, creating variations in color that can be seen in the left cheek and the center-line of the nose, and in the concentric lines. Fine metallics were crocheted in a shell stitch and used to accent the concentric circles. Their sparkle is reminiscent of the opulent gilded decorations on many Buddha carvings, yet their spareness echoes the Buddha's goal of simplicity.
The circle was felted in a circular form, and is supported on the outer edge by a slim wooden ring.
